Meet the Minds Behind Gold Dust & Walker Farms’ Growing Success
Back in 1973 it was unlikely that Bill and John Walker foresaw their budding farming operation growing as much as it did. As the original two partners, with the help of Bill’s wife, Jan, the brothers grew their modest grain farm into what would become Gold Dust Potato Processors and Walker Farms.

Meet Our Visionaries

Gold Dust & Walker Farms seeks an Agronomist to work in Malin, Oregon. Study, investigate, and conduct research on potato varieties to determine the capability and soil usage, appropriate fertilizer applications, water saturation levels, and effects of alternative practices on soil productivity; diagnose physiological problems of potato plants due to fertilizer, pests, or other agents; develop insect pest management strategy; develop control strategies to minimize nematode; and assist with scheduling planting, fertilizer application, irrigation, and harvest, according to plant specifications.

Travel to various worksites within a 60 mile radius of the employer’s main office located in Malin, OR.

Ability to work on Saturdays on a regular basis, and over 40 hours/week during peak season (May-October) is required.

Gold Dust and Walker Farms need Truck Drivers immediately for HARVEST SEASON! (Starts Sept) We will train strong candidates. Great for students or anyone who just needs a short-term position. You just need a driver’s license. Reach out to us to apply! Could work into a long-term position at the end of season.

· DL with Farm Endorsement- If you do not have a farm endorsement, we can help applicants obtain one.

· Ability to push, pull, lift, carry a minimum 50 pounds.

· Ability to climb ladders, crouch under vehicles, crawl on all fours.

· Ability to sit for long periods of time.

· Ability to work long hours.

· Ability to commute to work sites.

· Ability to work some nights and weekends.

Requirements:

· Ability to work quickly with hands

· Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time (>10 hours per day)

Job Requirements: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Drive and control farm equipment to till soil and to plant, cultivate, and harvest crops.

· Tractor driving is a pretty solitary activity. You will need to be able to get direction at the beginning of your shift and carry out the task, with advice where needed but mostly by yourself through the day. Tractor work sets the crew up for success in each field so just going out and spading or disking isn't enough. You need to know what results we need in the field and work with the farm manager to best achieve them.

· You are also responsible for keeping the equipment and tractor in safe working order on the days you are driving the tractor. This means some regular maintenance and informing someone when things need fixed.

Requirements:

J&W Walker Farms is hiring seasonal 
OPERATORS. This is a seasonal position with potential year-round employment for hard working individuals.

 Operator

Responsibilities:

· Lift pipe from ground or trailer, carry variable distance across fields/dirt terrain and set on the ground

· Push/pull wheel lines into place and/or across fields

· Stand at conveyor belt for extended periods of time picking out potatoes with both hands as they move along belt

· General physical labor including digging, digging samples, raking, weeding, sweeping, shoveling, hammering, etc.

Pay:

· $19.25 per hour if you have a driver’s license.

· $21.25 per hour if you have a CDL.

· Possible Bonus-$1-$2 per/hr with satisfactory work performance.

Part of being involved with the community is being a part of various boards and accepting commissions.

National Potato

board

In 2013 Weston Walker was appointed by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to the National Potato Board. The NPB is instrumental in giving the potato industry a voice in Congress.

Klamath Water

Users Association

Tricia Hill served as a board member on KWUA for several years before being elected as the first woman board president in 2019. KWUA works to ensuring Klamath Basin irrigated agriculture gets the water it needs.

Klamath Drainage District

Since 2019, Bill Walker has sat on the board of KDD, lending his experience to help make decisions on behalf of the irrigation district.
